Bio
I started playing the cello 11 years ago. Growing up in Illinois, I was a dedicated member of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, where I tackled some of the most challenging pieces and created unforgettable memories. My passion for the cello continued throughout my college career, ensuring that music remained a central part of my life. Although I now work in the field of Neuroscience, my commitment to music persists as I play with the UW Milwaukee Community Orchestra. This blend of science and music enriches my perspective and approach to teaching.
Music Education:
While pursuing a B.A. in Neuroscience and Psychology from Lawrence University, I gained extensive experience in private cello lessons, ensemble participation, and performances from 2015 to the present.
Teaching Experience:
I am eager to start my journey in teaching and bring my passion for the cello to my students. Having studied under several private cello teachers from 2015 to 2023, I have gained insights into various teaching styles. I am committed to adapting these approaches to best suit each student's unique needs and learning style.
Styles Taught:
I am mostly experienced in classical styles, but offer instruction in a variety of music styles that suit different styles and goals.
Methods Taught:
I begin lessons by focusing on scales, which are essential for developing technique and familiarity with the instrument. For instruction, I utilize standard method books such as Essential Elements or Sound Innovations, tailored to suit each student's level and needs. Additionally, I incorporate Suzuki books for students who prefer this approach. Ear training, sight-reading, and performance practice are also emphasized to cultivate a comprehensive understanding of music and enhance overall musicianship.
