Location(s):

Bio

I began taking piano lessons when I was five, flute when I was ten, and string bass when I was in college. I have conducted numerous community musicals in the Washington County area and have played string bass in the Kettle Moraine Symphony since about 1998. I am currently a regular member of the worship team (keyboard) at St. John's Lutheran Church in West Bend.

Music Education:

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois-Urbana (1976) and a Master's degree from the same school (1980).

Teaching Experience:

I taught band (all levels) in rural Kankakee County, Illinois; I gave private flute lessons at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois; I taught band, theory and general music at York High School in Elmhurst, Illinois and elementary and high school band in Janesville, Wisconsin. Most recently I have given beginning and intermediate piano lessons at a private school near West Bend.

Styles Taught:

Classical through contemporary. I am also conversant with jazz but would stress that a firm grounding in classical style is essential in my opinion to undertake the study of jazz.

Methods Taught:

I am most familiar with Alfred, Bastian, Faber and Schaum but since I can teach intermediate and advanced levels I am willing to work with whatever method books an incoming student is used to.
